I am a Psychologist, but first I am a mother.

I know the highs, the lows and the in between of parenthood.

I am here to support you through it all.

welcome

I’m Erin Henry, a registered perinatal psychologist and mother of three. I specialise in supporting families through the profound transition of parenthood. No matter is this is your first, second or even your fifth child, each journey to welcoming a child into your family is unique and deserves the space to be held.

With a focus on Matrescence, self-compassion, mindfulness, gratitude and attachment-based care, I provide a safe and nurturing space to unpack the highs and lows of early parenthood.

I draw from a variety of modalities (more information in services below). Overall my approach is evidence-based, trauma-informed, and grounded in the belief that there is no “perfect” way to be a parent, only the way that aligns with your values and your family’s needs.

areas of support

Things do not need to be at their absolute worst to get support. I am here to hear your concerns and hold space for you.

Typically, families I support begin to see me from conception through to the first 12 months. We do not end sessions when baby is 12 months old, we continue through to the early years as required for you and the support you are looking for.

I work with families who present with a range of presenting concerns in relation to, but not limited to:

  • Emotional support through the adjustment to parenthood
  • Exploring the change in identity and support through Matrescence
  • Preparation for birth and adjustment to parenthood
  • Managing social and cultural pressures
  • Understanding parental guilt and shame
  • Support through anger and rage
  • Support for fertility journey, adoption, surrogacy
  • Support for non-birthing parents
  • Birth trauma
  • Bonding and attachment with baby
  • Playing with your baby
  • Understanding the impact of your past on your parenting journey
  • Build confidence as a parent
  • Managing the emotional response to physical impacts of parenthood such as sleep deprivation, body changes, recovery from birth.
  • Plan for growing your family
  • Grief and loss support, including parenting after loss

SUPPORT FOR YOU IN ONE OF THE MOST RAW AND VULNERABLE PERIODS OF YOUR LIFE

you do not have to do this season alone

  • In-person

Availability for in-clinic appointments in Mooloolaba on the Sunshine Coast.

  • online

Telehealth via zoom for video sessions brings the ease to accessibilty of support.

  • in-home

For ease in those early days, I can come to your home to support you in a space that is familiar and safe to you.

  • walk and talk

Meeting at a local park, walkway or beach we can immerse ourselves in nature as part of your session. Great for pram walks with bubs, the benefits of movement and to help ground in everyday settings.

what you receive within services

a warm, supportive place to talk

Every session is a safe space where you can share openly without judgement. This is your time to slow down, breathe, and explore your experiences with someone who truly listens and understands.

This is a period of life where it is unpredictable, and we have to surrender to distress that our experience brings. We don't always 'fix' things, or offer solutions, it is often just being held and heard. You are reminded that sitting opposite you is a Psychologist, however I am a Mother first. I see you, I hear you, I get it.

Validation and Empowerment

Your feelings are welcome in all their forms. Parenthood is full of ups, downs and the in between. We can have the tendency to minimise our hard based on the hards of others.

When you work with me, we begin to debunk that myth of 'they have it worse' and 'I should be thankful'.

Together, we’ll acknowledge your experience and uncover strategies that help you feel more confident, capable, and empowered in your role as a parent.

These strategies aim to be values and self-compassion led. You are on a learning journey, and I am here to support you.

Placing you in the centre of care

Throughout pregnancy there is a lot of support in asking how you are. Once baby is born we can often see that shift in focus to baby. Yes, we have their vulnerability, however to care for the baby we must ensure you are cared for too.

Your health physically and mentally matters! When a Mother is well, a baby can be well.

Through the lens of Matrescence, we place you at the centre of care. Our work is guided by your needs, values, and story. Instead of a one-size-fits-all approach, I tailor support to what feels most meaningful and helpful for you and your family.

Celebration of your growth and development

We are often celebrating the milestones of conception, pregnancy, birth and early development in the baby. However, when do we pause and celebrate our own growth as new or expecting parents?

Parenthood is a journey of constant change, transition and evolution into a new version of ourselves. Together, we will take time to recognise not only the hard times, but also the resilience, insight, and growth you are going through along the way. You deserve to be proud of yourself and I will be there cheering alongside you until you gain the confidence and knowing to give it to yourself.

The family system as a whole will be recognised

I am passionate about including non birthing partners in sessions, either for 1:1 therapy themselves, or to accompany partners in their sessions. This may look like birth and postpartum planning, psychoeducation, sharing of experience and birth debriefing.

I also bring to mind infant mental health and giving a voice to the baby and their experiences in the world.

We look at the interaction of your experience and how that looks within your family dynamic, giving strategies to help support your family unit to move forward together in a way that is aligned to your values, needs and resources.

Access to resources and further education

Sessions may include practical tools, psychoeducation and resources to support your wellbeing beyond the therapeutic space. This should not be viewed as 'homework', but rather knowledge and empowerment to access at times where you have capacity to learn and understand more.

I know from my own experience, the more I talk, read or listen to concepts, the more readily available the information is for me to utilise in moments of overwhelm.

I am to give you real, relatable strategies that are not always adding to your already never ending to do list.
